A grant from Quebec city to create a company in rehabilitation engineering

Professor Alexandre Campeau-Lecours and Régis Labeaume, mayor of Quebec City.

Professor Alexandre Campeau-Lecours won a $ 25,000 grant for the creation of a business in the area of technical assistance in the context of the Appel à projets Québec, ville entrepreneuriale, 2e cohorte. The aim of this competition is to stimulate and support the creation and growth of innovative, structuring and job-creating companies, with less than five years of existence.

Assistyv develops technological solutions adapted to people with disabilities and elders to help them maintain their autonomy, dignity and quality of life, thereby reducing the costs that some care requires. Its first product, the AssystMouse software, allows people with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, quadriplegia or muscular dystrophy to control their computers. The software allows moving the mouse cursor with head movements and clicking with facial expressions, such as raising the eyebrows. To do this, the software first detects the face of the user with a webcam camera to track the movements of his head. Artificial intelligence algorithms are then used to allow the precise movement of the cursor and to adapt to the user in real time. The software allows users to write e-mails, browse the Internet and play computer games. The company received support from various mentors, including Entrepreneuriat Laval.

    Congratulations to Professor Alexandre Campeau-Lecours!
